Dr. Jacqueline-Marie Ferland is a postdoctoral fellow at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, working with Dr. Yasmin Hurd, Director of the Addiction Institute. She will introduce the neuroscience of drugs like painkillers and heroin, explaining how opiates act as potent palliatives, but can quickly become addictive.

MUHAMMAD PARVAZ, PHD

Dr. Parvaz is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in NY. Dr. Parvaz’s lab examines changes in the brain and behavior related to the development and maintenance of substance abuse as well as during abstinence and treatment. In this talk he will discuss how the brain changes during abstinence as well as some of the techniques that their group is examining for accelerating recovery.
