Join us at c.1949 for Women in Science, an evening dedicated to past, present, and future women scientists and their remarkable contributions to science, featuring Dr. Lori Collins and Jaclyn Angelo!  Dr. Collins is a professor and co-director of the Digital Heritage and Humanities Collections (DHHC) in the University of South Florida Libraries, working to preserve and protect the world’s cultural and natural heritage through education and global engagement.  Jaclyn is a forensics expert, with more than a decade of experience in the field who currently uses her training to close unsolved cases using DNA evidence.

Finding and Documenting the Unexpected with 3D Archaeology- In this talk, archaeologist Dr. Lori Collins will discuss highlights from a more than a decade of research using 3D technologies in the field, including her team's most recent discoveries ranging from a canoe that washed ashore during hurricane Irma, to a shipwreck that was discovered on the beach over Easter weekend south of Jacksonville, to the uncovering and digital documentation of ancient rock carvings in Mesoamerica. Learn how 3D, advanced imagery, and spatial technologies are ushering in a new era of innovation for archaeology.

Forensic DNA- Jaclyn Angelo has been in forensics for over a decade, and worked with DNA evidence since 2011. She will tell us about why DNA is useful in forensics, potential sources of DNA, how DNA is analyzed in forensics, and how the CODIS database can help with unsolved cases.
