Failure is the mother of success, and we celebrate science failures knowing that success is not too far off.
taste of science Tampa Bay joins several other taste of science cities at the Science Fail Fest!
We will open the mic and invite you to share your sciencey failure and most importantly, how or what you learned from it. We'll also have some local headliners to share their failures and lessons learned. More information on these speakers to come.
The week prior the St. Petersburg Innovation District is holding their annual 2019 State of Science at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. While this event will surely give you an idea of what's gone right, the Science Fail Fest will highlight the flip-side of those with what we don't hear about behind the successes.

The day I dumped a prominent visiting scientist's experiment down the drain - As a undergrad lab technician, I accidentally dumped a visiting researcher's urchin spawn down the sink.

Gazing at the Stars, Please- Navigating the Telescope Allocation Process - Studying stars requires telescopes, and in many cases, really big telescopes. There are only a handful of large telescopes on Earth, and they are in high demand. Time on these telescopes is allocated through a peer-reviewed proposal process, which can be unforgiving. Personal failure in the process is inevitable, and sometimes, incredible patience and perseverance is required to get the data one's need to do their science. I will discuss one of my personal struggles with getting telescope time.
About Simon: Simon is an astronomer at the University of Tampa.

“Sharks don’t do that?” - I will tell a quick story about how I became an oceanographer, about when everything seemed lost out at sea, and the beauty in every drop of ocean.
About Enrique: Enrique a biological oceanographer at the University of South Florida College of Marine Science and is interested in all forms of life in the ocean, how the environment affects them and how they shape their surroundings.
