taste of science and The TMC Chapter of the American Society for Microbiology are hosting a two-part COVID-19 Webinar series to break down COVID-19 science, the situation on the ground, and discuss solutions. You'll hear directly from physicians, virologists, clinical microbiologists and epidemiologists on the science behind the disease, public policy and get to ask any questions you have on the subject.
The event will be divided by consecutive two days, always at 2pm CST:

May 3rd: Segment II - The Path Forward
COVID-19: The Path Forward
This segment will discuss solutions to the current crisis (testing, vaccines and treatments) and how we can be better prepare for future pandemics.

Meet your speakers
Robert Atmar
Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Atmar has a longstanding interest in the study of respiratory viruses, including their epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. His lab has been involved on the development of vaccines targeting pandemic influenza, including H5N1, H9N2 and H7N9 viruses. He has also actively been working on Houston's COVID19 response and on communicating with the public during the pandemic.
Laila Woc-Colburn
Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Woc-Colburn is an infectious diseases physician who aims to prevent, diagnose and treat common and neglected tropical diseases in the Houston metropolitan population and to improve occupational health for those working in regions where tropical diseases thrive. She has publised research on HIV/AIDS and is a keen medical educator, passionate about educating the next generation in the art of medicine and infectious diseases. Recently Dr. Woc-Colburn has been working on CODVID-19 clinical trials.
Ayesha Khan
Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Khan is an infectious disease scientist and clinical microbiologist with a background on molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance. She is currently on SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics and testing.
Jillian Losh
Houston Methodist
Dr. Losh is a Program Project Manager and Regulatory Compliance Specialist helping to ensure that future drug, device, and biologic therapies are available to a variety of patient populations. Dr. Losh oversaw the first COVID-19 plasma transfusion trial in the US, which consists on transfusing donated blood plasma from a fully recovered COVID-19 patient into a critically ill person.
