Recent news coverage of tech companies profiting from our personal data has cast big data in a negative light. But tech companies aren't the only ones interested in large datasets full of detailed information about us, and not all users of big data are motivated by profit. Join us for an event featuring two speakers who will explain how your data can be used to improve human health and our understanding of ourselves.

Wendy Chung, PhD   Kennedy Family Professor of Pediatrics in Medicine, Columbia University; Director of Clinical Research, SFARI, Simons Foundation; Principal Investigator of SPARK  Understanding the causes of common yet diverse conditions such as autism can be challenging. Simons Foundation Powering Autism Research for Knowledge (SPARK) is a research cohort of over 50,000 individuals with autism and their families recruited online that will include genomic and other multidimensional data to tease apart the heterogeneity of autism and better understand the brain and behavior. By meaningfully engaging participants and returning individual and aggregate research results, SPARK will provide the research community with research ready participants to move science forward.
