Sylvia Dee, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences, Rice University

Dr. Sylvia Dee is a climate scientist who focuses on past, present, and future changes in the hydrological cycle. Sylvia’s work characterizes extreme events like flooding and hurricanes using climate models and satellite data alongside past climate data from ice cores, tree rings, and corals.

Daniel Cohan, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Rice University

Daniel Cohan is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rice University and a member of EPA’s Board of Scientific Counselors climate change subcommittee. Dr. Cohan is a recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER award and served as a Fulbright Scholar to Australia. He is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, 75 popular media articles, and the book Confronting Climate Gridlock: How Diplomacy, Technology, and Policy Can Unlock a Clean Energy Future (Yale University Press, 2022).

Confronting Climate Change - This talk will discuss how technology, policy, and diplomacy can help confront climate change and accelerate the pursuit of clean energy

Christin Newell, EN-ROADS Climate ambassador

Christin Newell is a principal process engineer in renewables at Tetra Tech. She has her BS in chemical engineering from Rice University. She has worked in RNG, LNG, biofuels, and chemicals. She is an ambassador for the EN Roads Climate Simulator.

EN Roads Climate Simulator - Christin will introduce EN Roads climate simulator that allows users to explore the impact of roughly 30 policies—such as electrifying transport, pricing carbon, and improving agricultural practices—on hundreds of factors like energy prices, temperature, air quality, and sea level rise.
