Stephen Hawking was indeed a very special advanced breed of monkey. A month after we said goodbye to one of the most brilliant minds of the 20th Century, Dr. Matthew Baring will give a talk about his work, followed by a special screening of the movie "The Theory of Everything".
He will be missed by many but his impact on science and scientific outreach will continue on.

General relativity is one of the most compelling theories of physics ever conceived. Einstein's predictions have been vindicated in so many ways. I will summarize key elements of these, connecting to black hole and neutron star astrophysics, and highlight some of Hawking's contributions to the field of gravity.
